How does made to order save the environment?

The global textile and apparel industry emits more than 1.7 billion tons of greenhouse gases each year, according to the Global Fashion Agenda, more than all international flights and marine transportation combined.

Fashion makes a huge contribution to global warming. Two remain under the global goal of two degrees of warming, the fashion industry needs to cut emissions by 80% by 2050.

However, the apparel industry is still growing very fast. According to recent reports, it's increasing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5% since 2014 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.8% by 2022.

A made-to-order business model can lessen waste, the amount of excess stock, and the obligations placed on designers.

Consumers today demand speed and convenience. This mindset shift fueled, at least in part, by the fusion of capitalism and new technologies has aided in the quick production of clothing by a trend-driven fashion industry. Targeted advertising, next-day delivery, and online buying.
It's all a part of the beast "fast fashion", which demands large-scale, wholesale manufacturing. But, consumer demand may not be as hungry as businesses claim.

Made-to-order clothing is only produced when a customer places an order. This means that there is no unsold inventory or excess stock that will end up in landfills or incinerators. By reducing textile waste, made-to-order clothing helps to minimize the environmental impact of the fashion industry and it appears to make more economic sense for smaller businesses too.

Since made-to-order clothing is produced on demand, there is no need for large-scale manufacturing or transportation of goods. This means that the carbon footprint associated with the production and distribution of clothing is significantly reduced.

Made-to-order clothing companies can choose to use sustainable materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, and biodegradable fibers. By using sustainable materials, the environmental impact of clothing production is minimized.

Made-to-order clothing encourages consumers to buy only what they need, rather than purchasing items on impulse or because of fast-changing fashion trends. This helps to reduce the overall demand for clothing and promotes responsible consumption.

Overall, made-to-order clothing can help reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry by minimizing textile waste, lowering carbon emissions, using sustainable materials, and promoting responsible consumption.
