Equal Pay for Women Cricket Players as Male Players

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women's cricket team, is a well-known figure in the world of cricket, and she has set numerous international records. However, she has often been paid less than her male counterparts. This struggle of women cricketers has been going on for the past few years. This changed during the T20 match when she led her team onto the field to play against Australia. For the first time, the Indian women's international side is receiving the same pay as the male team.

The Struggle of Women Cricketers

Female athletes in other countries are making progress, but there are still large gaps to be closed in India. The Australian women's cricket team is among the best-compensated athletes in Australia, with Cricket Australia acknowledging there is still a "big gap" in pay between the male and female leagues. The women's cricket team in India wants to set an example for the rest of the world and help close these gaps. Kaur, a female cricket player, credits her aggressive batting skills to playing with boys at a young age. There were few opportunities for young girls to play cricket in India, so she had to train hard and develop her abilities independently.

Kaur was initially recognized for her talent in cricket, but it took some time for her to become well-known. By 2017, she was recognized for her impressive achievements in the world of women's cricket. In the knockout stage of a women's World Cup, she had broken the record for the highest score. However, many of the team's players were still trying to find the right equipment to bring with them onto the field. This lack of recognition and unequal pay was eventually demotivating for young female cricketers, and this could eventually lead to India losing some great talents. Therefore, it is important that women cricketers receive equal pay.

Equal Pay for Women Cricketers

This article discusses the recent decision by the Indian cricket board to pay equal salaries to male and female players, which is a groundbreaking development. This decision is a significant step forward in equality for women in India and will help encourage more girls to pursue the sport.

The Indian cricket board's decision will result in many changes in the upcoming years. This is good news for players and will bring a lot of motivation to them. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on October 27, 2023, that it will be paying the same match fees for its female and male international teams. The pay scheme for international cricket matches is the first time it has been used in this format of the game. Starting this year, female players will be paid the same amount as male players for Test matches and T20s. Female cricket players in India will now be paid the same as their male counterparts, a move intended to motivate them and give them more responsibility and recognition.

The decision to pay female cricket players the same as male players is the result of many years of female cricketers fighting for equality since women started to play cricket in the Indian team. While match fees have equalized, female cricket players still earn less than male players with similar skills. Indian junior coaches say this is because female cricket players are not played as much as male cricket players for their work as coaches. Hence, providing more opportunities for junior female cricketers can be a great decision to take forward equality in women's cricket
